Christmas 1862

You are invited to join The South Carolina Battleground Preservation Trust presentation of “Christmas 1862” at Fort Lamar Heritage Preserve on James Island, SC.

Living History demonstrations include Confederate and Union camps, Artillery Demonstrations, period Christmas Tree decorating, Quilting, Candle Making (weather permitting), Butter Churning, Children’s toys and Readings of Christmas letters from home and field.

Guided tours of Fort Lamar will be conducted on the hour from 1-3:00pm by Dr. Stephen Wise, author of “Gate of Hell-The Siege of Charleston” and historian W.J. Keith. 

Bagpipers will be playing period Christmas music throughout the day.

Event participants include the 10th and 27th South Carolina Volunteers, the Marion Light Artillery, Tramp Brigade, and the South Carolina Ladies Auxiliary.

Remember, the event is free and open to the public. 

Driving Directions:
Take Route 17 to James Island then head south on Highway 171 (Folly Road). Turn left onto Grimball Road and follow to Seccessionville Road. Turn left onto Old Military Road then turn left onto Fort Lamar Road. The entrance to the site is 0.8 miles on left.
